Arrival into Assisi via the stunning high route from Spello!

823m/2,700 ft descent

With finally blue skies for the day – we were able to take the high route climbing up Mount Subasio and then descending into Assisi. It was a really tough climb, basically starting with 3 hours of non stop climbing out of Spello and then descending for final 5k or so on a steep very rocky terrain to get to Assisi. But the reward was spectacular views!

Cappuccino’s to start the day 😊

A break for lunch after 3 hours of intense climbing!
A very large pear is well deserved at the peak – plus Lara’s pack lightened up 😂

About 5k before Assisi is Eremo della Carceri – a beautiful well preserved hermitage that Saint Francis and his followers regularly retreated to.

More of Assisi to come 🙂
