Day 9 – Beautiful Spoleto valley and the medieval city of Spoleto

718m/2,355 ft descent

Today on a beautiful day we reached Spoleto one of, what is considered, the highlight cities of the Via DiFrancesco. Spoleto dates back Roman times with various Roman remains amazingly still in tact. Like the Roman wall surrounding the old part of city, the Roman amphitheater, the Rocca a fortress on the hilltop above Spoleto.

The day started flat than had about 10k of climbing into the mountains with beautiful views followed by another several k descending into Spoleto to end the day.

Beautiful start to day !
Never know what you’ll come across on the trail 😂
We were all excited to see more pilgrims in the mountains today – a couple from the Netherlands that we all took a break and shared some nice conversation with
Mountain town of Monteluco where St.Francis and his brothers lived in caves in 1218 – now site of Franciscan convent
