Managed to escape the rain for 2nd walking day – and although our climbs were larger that yesterday felt better in that they were a bit more stretched out. There’s a few things that are definitely different on this trail vs the Camino de Santiago.
1) where are the pilgrims:) – as I knew from last time I did the other half of this route unlike the Camino your lucky if you stumble across another pilgrim all day . So far we ran into 4 yesterday and 3 today walking in opposite direction to Rome. We did run into an Australian couple in town and we’re having dinner with them tonight – the one bar in town that was open the owner told us she’s preparing for us pasta with asparagus and zucchini!
2) very few albergue’s – more B&B’s – which you do get quite spoiled – no bunk beds, real towels, your own shower – at some point I’m sure will hit a town with an albergue but until then gotta say not missing them 🙂
3) Not nearly as many towns on a typical day to pass through – so less cafe breaks!
4) Not many stretches of flat stretches in Umbrian mountains and seemingly every end of day has a climb to a hilltop town which I love – the towns that is not the end of day climbs!
5) where are the washers and dryers ?? On the Camino typically at many albergues there would be a washer and dryer. Instead it’s daily hand washing and finding ways to help the clothes dry in a rainy afternoon
Ended the day on this cute little hilltop town of Ponticelli
